Fitness and fun with outdoor or garden trampolines
| February 4th, 2010Trampolines are one of the way to exercise for adults or kids. It is brilliant fun but it also has several prove fitness and health benefits! Standard and regular use of trampolines and rebounders increases muscle strength and improves your fitness by elevating your pulse rate and ensuring that oxygen is pumped around your body more efficiently. A good trampolining session, like any other aerobic exercise, will make you feel healthier and more alert and because trampolines are usually outdoors in the garden, a good dose of fresh air is an added bonus.
Trampolines are often recommended by doctors following a heart attack to help strengthen the heart and in comparison to jogging, trampolining produces more aerobic exercise faster. Ten minutes use of trampolines provides the same advantages as going for a run for 30 minutes and also are great fun! Trampolining also uses almost every muscle in the body, especially the stomach muscles, arms and legs, so the activity is ideal to keep your tummy trim, your bottom toned and your thighs slim.
While recognising all these health and fitness benefits, the biggest concern many parents have with trampolines is safety, especially when they are used almost exclusively by the kids. Circular 14ft trampolines, 12ft trampolines, 10ft trampolines, 8ft trampolines from leading, reputable brands can all incorporate trampoline safety nets that completely enclose the trampoline bounce mat and avoid any tumbles or spills. Mostly injuries occur on the mat, but big brands and better makes generally have double bounce system. Mats uses two layers of well padded and cushioned sprung mats, which provides lowe bounces for the kids but it can handle upto 17 stone adult (and that 17 stone can be lost in no time, if you use trampolines regularly!)
Recreational outdoor garden trampolines are circular to encourage all the bounce is towards the centre for safety reasons. Rectangular trampolines are really intended for serious, competition-focussed, athletes and probably not the best option if you simply want a fun thing to do in the back yard. So helping to strengthen bones, improving cardiovascular fitness, trimming and toning tums and bums and even detoxing your lymphatic system are all side effects of trampolining. It’s probably your mental health that will improve most though. The sheer excitement and motivation fun of jumping up and down in a safe trampoline is guaranteed to put a smile on people’s face no matter of what age they are!
